Balance, Caring and Career

Managing your career development and caring for dependants can be a balancing act. You might be considering going on maternity or parental leave or returning back to work from it and would like to understand your options. You might be looking for inspiration from people who have managed to develop their careers or even started their own business in the built environment while caring for dependents.

This is a round table discussion from various professionals, who want to share their experiences of balance, caring and career in the built environment. The Panellist Speakers for the event are Mimie Wallace, HR Consultant specialising in supporting Architect and Designers, Helen Goodwin, Head of Programmes at Design South East and Natasha Bennett, Director and Cofounder of BeMo Architecture.

About the Speakers

Mimie has been working alongside Architects and Designers since 2014, specialising in day to day operations such as policies and procedures and HR administration and understands the unique challenges Architects and Designers face.

She is the Managing Director and HR Consultant for Tisam HR established in August 2020. Tisam HR is a remote/virtual HR consultancy founded to remove the stress and overwhelm of setting up HR from Architects and Interior Designers with small businesses.

Helen is Head of Programmes at Design South East, a not-for-profit design consultancy supporting local authorities and their stakeholders to deliver positive urban change by championing good design processes. An interest in people and places and a focus on collaborative placemaking come from her work and training in both architecture and anthropology. Helen’s doctoral thesis explored the social impact of projects of urban regeneration in London, focusing on how processes can foster a sense of community and belonging. Helen co-led a cross-disciplinary architecture/landscape design studio at Kingston University’s School of Architecture and Landscape.

Natasha Bennett is an architect, director and co-founder of BeMo Architecture. She has spent the past 10 years working within the residential sector. BeMo was formed as a way for her and business partner, Emma Moseley to maintain a foothold in the industry, whilst juggling family life. The practice offers architects, flexible and professional services, on a consultancy basis and manages a handful of private projects.
