Your career: ask a new question

There is no one trajectory or right way to build a career; sometimes we don’t have people around us to bounce off. When we keep coming to the same conclusions, we need to ask a different question. The Career Design Canvas is a Built By Us method that asks you to think more widely about the life you want to create, what you know and - most importantly - why you do what you do.

Founder of BBU Danna Walker created the Career Design Canvas after finding the Business Model Canvas instrumental in the formation of BBU.

Who is CANVAS for?

The Career Design Canvas is designed for anyone who is looking to think about their career. It’s that simple! Embedding reflection into your work-life is essential to achieve your goals. This isn’t a one-off; your goals will change as you move through your career. Reflecting on these changes will help you to make the most of what you’ve learned and experienced. 

Effective leaders build reflection into their schedules, so ask yourself - when will you find half an hour to reflect on everything you give to your career? At the end of every quarter? Around your birthday? 

How will you make the time to harness everything you’ve learned and apply it to your future?

How does the Canvas work?

The Canvas is a 1-page PDF. Print it off, save it to your tablet and then scribble on it, sketch, bubble write, get some Sharpies, type with your favourite font - whatever works for you.

The Canvas is designed to be simple and to provoke you to think, recognise your strengths and where you want to go.

Yes, we recommend that Build and Fluid mentees complete the Career Design Canvas to kick off conversations, guide their strategy and provide focus.
