  • Part-time Role

  • Salary: £34-40k depending on experience

Archio is an architecture studio delivering affordable housing and community-led projects, with an ethos to deliver positive social impact through our work. We are a small studio that offers a flexible and friendly working environment.

With a number of recent Framework awards and a growing reputation in our sector, we are looking for an experienced and skilled Finance Coordinator / Bookkeeper to run our financial systems and support the continuing growth of our business.

The position is part-time (1-2 days per week, with a possibility to increase this through an extension of the job specification) and can be filled on an employed or freelance basis, depending on the preference of the candidate. Attendance can be in person or remotely, with occasional days working from the studio.

The role will be focussed on accurate financial reporting and refinement of existing internal monitoring systems, as well as general bookkeeping and accounting activities. Key tasks are likely to include:

  • Reporting

  • Profit and Loss account updates and maintenance

  • weekly updates and maintenance to 12-month cash flow

  • project progress report

  • matrix report maintenance

  • overheads report maintenance

  • projected income analysis

  • dashboard of financial information and analysis for directors’ meeting

  • budgeting

General financial tasks:

  • invoice processing and filing

  • staff expenses processing

  • raising pay run reports for payment and payments if required

  • monthly and quarterly overhead costs analysis v budget

  • Xero reconciliation

  • raising or processing monthly invoices as required

  • following up with debtors

  • review quarterly VAT submissions undertaken by an external accountant

  • liaising with external research and development tax consultant

  • liaising with external partners on monthly payroll

  • benchmarking with RIBA, and other membership organisations

  • liaison on annual accounts with external accountants

  • other tasks as may emerge during the course of the role.

The ideal candidate will hold a financial qualification and have experience working in Architecture Practices with similar responsibilities to those described above. They will be comfortable working with the Xero accounting software, and CMAP practice management software.

They will be a good communicator, who is able to work quickly and precisely to distil key information from detailed financial data to enable the Directors to monitor the business performance and to support smooth integration with our external financial partners.


They should be a self-starter who is able to demonstrate where they have taken the initiative to make improvements to systems in previous roles.



The Hiring Process

The hiring process will be as follows:

1/ Candidates will be long-list candidates on the basis of objective skills and invited to proceed to the next stage.

2/ Long-listed candidates will be invited to complete a short online form with 2-3 written questions, which will result in a short-list invited to interview

3/ An interview to assess candidates against key competencies, which will include a 'desk-based' task and an interview with company directors.
