About Us

HUT believes in architecture as a driver for transformation. We make places to live, work and play that are sustainable not just in terms of embodied and operational energy, but also in their broader social context.

We believe strongly in the principles of design as a means to minimise environmental impact. We embrace the circular economy, reducing waste through the inventive up-cycling of sites, building uses and materials.

Many of our projects are mixed-use, retrofit, located within tight urban sites, and involve listed buildings.

All are approached with an open mind and enthusiasm to create the most appropriate response to the brief.

HUT is a diverse, design-centric and democratic studio environment. Ours has always been a balanced team of women and men, we are currently more women than men. Our practice is what we teach and we are highly committed to attracting new talent to the profession.

We are always keen to engage with the wider profession, the community we work in, and also future architects. We support local schools, lecture at universities, and engage in place-making within our broader community. Our studio is a vibrant and creative place to work with an active calendar of cultural and social events across the year. We advocate a positive work/life balance and undertake regular performance reviews alongside a mentoring programme to support the development of all of our team.
