About our Apprenticeship

As a Building Services Engineering Technician, you will work within a team of engineers and other professionals such as acoustics, lighting and sustainability assisting in the design of various installations found in buildings. These typically include systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, drainage, lighting, power, controls and lifts, to deliver buildings which meet the needs of the people that use them.  

Buildings take on many forms from newly built facilities to the refurbishment of historic premises for every sector including healthcare (hospitals), education (schools, colleges, universities), workplace (offices), retail (shopping outlets) and leisure (hotels) both in the UK and internationally.

During your apprenticeship at BDP, no two days will ever be the same as you study. Spending one day a week studying at London South Bank University and the remainder working at our Clerkenwell studio.

You’ll study towards a Level 4 Apprenticeship in Building Services. This qualification is level to a Higher National Certificate (HNC) with the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineering (CBSE) and you will gain an EngTech upon completion. 

Subject to your progress, there may be an opportunity to go on to further study to enable you to be qualified to degree level and achieve Incorporated (IEng or CEng) status with CBSE.

 

Qualifications Required:

Applicants must hold 5 GCSEs A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSEs grade 4 or above).

And or one of the following:

  • A Level EEE - Must include Mathematics and preferably a Science in either Chemistry or Physics (UCAS points: 48)

  • T-level (Pass or above) in Construction: Design, Surveying and Planning. (UCAS points: 72)

  • BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma MPP in an Engineering subject area or Construction and Built Environment area (Must include Mathematics and advanced Mathematics) (UCAS points: 64)

  • Building Services Engineering Technician level 3 apprenticeship MP (UCAS points: 48) alongside grade Pass or Distinction at EPA

  • Access to HE qualifications with 45 Passes supported by substantial relevant work experience

Another equivalent level 3 qualification worth 64 UCAS points supported by substantial relevant work experience



Skills required:

You will:

  • be competent in the use of IT with good knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

  • be able to communicate in written English to a good standard

  • have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team

  • be able to manage your own time and have a simple understanding of prioritisation

  • be able to produce neat and accurate work

  • Personal qualities:



    You will:

  • be reliable, punctual and have a positive attitude to learning and your own development

  • be creative and practical

  • be able to think in a methodical way

  • have a general interest in the built environment and a career in the construction industry
